Since 1979 Aztec has specialised in the design and manufacture of battery chargers for underground mining locomotives. Aztec’s Batcon™ Micro loco battery charger remains the leading loco battery charger in Africa due to its performance, reliability, reparability, resilience and simplicity. It is available in both oil-cooled and air-cooled types.

The Batcon™ charger is based on the decades old transformer-transductor design which has proven vastly superior to the more modern high-frequency designs. The transformer-transductor design is significantly less affected by moisture, voltage spikes and surges.  

Aztec’s in-house designed, and extensively proven Batcon™ Micro charge controller was designed to eliminate the overcharging of batteries; which is a leading cause of premature battery failures underground. It achieves this by continuously sensing the battery parameters and adjusting the charge accordingly. A typical full recharge cycle is eight to twelve hours however the Batcon™ Micro will immediately stop charging once it senses that a battery is fully charged; even if this means that the charge duration is less than one hour.
